Grosvenor Mine: Underground WiFi Mapping & Rectification

By Deftec

Underground Mining

The Challenge

Anglo American’s Grosvenor Mine needed to map and rectify underground WiFi coverage across their mining operations at Moranbah to ensure reliable communications and systems connectivity in the subsurface environment. The work required specialised underground electrical expertise and a comprehensive site assessment to identify and resolve coverage issues.

Our Approach

Deftec deployed an experienced underground electrician and apprentice for a dedicated week-long engagement, completing 60 hours each of focused mapping and rectification work. Our team conducted systematic WiFi surveys throughout the underground areas, documented findings, and implemented corrective measures in partnership with the mine’s support team. We delivered a detailed mapping and rectification report capturing all work completed and recommendations for ongoing system performance.

The Outcome

The project established a clear picture of underground WiFi infrastructure and remediated identified issues, enabling Grosvenor Mine to rely on stable wireless communications for operational safety and efficiency. Our hands-on approach combined technical expertise with on-site collaboration, ensuring solutions were practical and integrated with existing site systems.
