Mackay Regional Council: Walkerston Water Booster Pump Station Replacement
The Challenge
Mackay Regional Council needed to modernise the aging Walkerston Water Booster Pump Station with new control systems, electrical infrastructure, and SCADA integration to meet current standards and operational requirements. The project required complete removal of legacy equipment, installation of compliant switchboard systems, variable speed drives, and seamless integration with the Council’s existing GeoSCADA platform.
Our Approach
Deftec delivered a comprehensive automation and controls package spanning electrical infrastructure, telemetry systems, and SCADA programming. Our scope included supply and installation of an AS/NZS 61439 compliant Ergon metering switchboard with integrated pressure sensors, variable speed drives for pump control, a dedicated telemetry cubicle, complete cable tray and instrumentation interconnections, and factory acceptance testing (FAT) of electrical and control systems. We also handled programming to Mackay Regional Council’s specifications and updated the existing GeoSCADA environment to incorporate the new station’s monitoring and operational parameters.
The Outcome
The project delivered modern, standards-compliant control systems that enable remote monitoring and optimised pump operation through variable speed control. Integration with Council’s GeoSCADA provides centralised visibility across the water network, improving operational efficiency and system reliability for the Walkerston supply zone.
